Before our stay at Villa Godahena, our drive from Mirissa had us pass through popular tourist destinations like Unawatuna, Galle and Hikkaduwa. We reached the coastal town of Ambalangoda where the villa was tucked away from the local hustle and bustle. We were greeted by the villa manager and an amazing view of the infinity pool and nearby lake. The villa has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a full functioning kitchen. We loved all the intricate details throughout the villa such as the handmade Sri Lankan wooden furniture, ancient devil masks which the local town is famous for, and bodhi leaves which pay homage to Buddha.
We spent the day relaxing at the pool and taking in the serene surroundings. One of the details that we loved about the pool was the outdoor shower that was built into a palm tree. You can also spot some local residents such as mongooses, peacocks, sizable lizards and chipmunks! The pool is the perfect place to chill where you can listen to the sounds of nature and the slight rustling of the trees blowing in the breeze. Villa Godahena is an oasis of peace and serenity.
We spent the evening out on the porch and had a traditional rice and curry dinner which was by far one of our favorite meals in Sri Lanka. The next morning, we spent the rest of our time at the villa admiring the views while enjoying French pressed coffee, Ceylon tea and a delicious breakfast. The villa includes a personal chef which definitely elevates the experience. While the villa staff can easily organize transportation, there is no need to go into town with such delicious food at your fingertips. It is definitely a nice option to have!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Godahena and would highly recommend anyone visiting Sri Lanka to enjoy this peaceful villa. It is only two hours away from the Colombo airport and it’s also close enough to visit tourist destinations like Hikkaduwa Beach and Galle Fort. The villa is the perfect residence for families as well as a group of friends traveling together!
From the amazing landscape, the attention to detail in every room, the friendliest staff and the delicious meals, you will be in paradise! We had such a wonderful stay and we are so grateful for Villa Godahena for welcoming us during our time in Sri Lanka.
